JESUS the GIFT of GOD: “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Cor 9:15). Adoniram Judson laid the foundation for a remarkable work of God in Burma. But as a young man he fell into Deism (God as absentee landlord) in college under the influence of a fellow student, Jacob Eames. But upon graduating, after an unfulfilling stint as a bit actor in New York, he set his steps homeward. Stopping at an inn overnight, he was beleagered by the groans and terrified screams of a fellow traveler who, it turned out, was dying in the next room. In the morning, Judson discovered it was his old classmate, Jacob Eames! After a few months of deep soul-searching, the man who became the first foreign missionary sent from America received the gift of God. Let us tell others as Christ said to a Samaritan woman, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water” (Jn 4:10).
