CHRIST the UNYIELDING LOVER: “…having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end” (Jn 13:1). C.H. Spurgeon tells of traveling to visit an elderly farmer. The preacher was surprised to see that the barn had an unusual weather vane. Instead of a bird or an arrow or a ship, the vane had a short Bible text: “God is love.” “Do you mean to suggest,” queried Spurgeon, “that the love of God is as variable as the changing wind direction?” “No, no,” replied the old fellow. “I mean it to say that God is love—whichever way the wind may blow!” We are not wise enough to try and read the love of God in circumstances. God made one great declaration of His love at Calvary, and after that no one should ever question His love again: “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 Jn 4:10). Calvary love is the measure of it all. If He did that for us, surely we can trust Him with the rest.
