CHRIST the ONE CALLING YOU: “The Master has come and is calling for you” (Jn 11:28). What a wonder, when having no idea how to extricate yourself from the hopelessness of sin, to hear the Good Shepherd’s voice calling you “out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Pet 2:9). And from that very moment, “you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Cor 1:9)! This high calling (Php 3:14), this heavenly calling (Heb 3:1), this holy calling (2 Tim 1:9) is nothing less than being called to be saints now (1 Cor 1:2) and ultimately called “to His eternal glory” (1 Pet 5:10)! We “have been called to liberty” (Gal 5:13) and “you were called…that you may inherit a blessing” (1 Pet 3:9). No wonder we exclaim, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 Jn 3:1). As a result, a believer’s desire should be “to make your calling…sure” (2 Pet 1:10), that is, to live in the good of all to which the Master has called us.
