CHRIST the EPITOME of UNSELFISHNESS: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mt 20:28). ‘Easy’ Eddie O’Hare was gangster Al Capone’s lawyer. As crooked as his boss, Eddie had one son. As the boy grew, his father realized he had put him on the road to destruction. What could he do to at least change the history of his only son “Butch”? Eddie struck a deal with the Feds. Handing over Capone’s financial records, he secured an 11-year sentence for “Scarface” in Alcatraz for tax evasion. In exchange, he won for his son a place at Annapolis Naval Academy. There he did well, became a Navy pilot, fought in the Pacific theater in World War II, and became an ace, in fact, the first naval aviator to win the Congressional Medal of Honor. Chicago’s O’Hare Airport is named for him. But his father? He died in a hail of bullets, ordered by his old boss. ‘Easy’ Eddie died for his son, but it was “when we were enemies” Christ died for us!
