CHRIST the MOUNTAIN CLIMBER: “For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire…But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem…to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant” (Heb 12:18-24). Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli was British Prime Minister twice during the reign of Queen Victoria. He was the only one who held that office to be born Jewish. Before a distinguished audience at Oxford University, he declared: “Amid all the waves of strife and war and sin and tumult which swirl around us, there are two peaks which will never be submerged, Sinai and Calvary—the law of God and the love of God. These are the facts which matter.” He was right. And why? Because Christ is both the end of God’s law (Rom 10:4) to those who believe, and the beginning of God’s love manifested in its fulness to us (1 Jn 4:10).
