CHRIST the ANTIDOTE to WORRY: Clearly there is a difference between legitimate concern and worry. Concern is taking seriously my responsibility; worry is taking God’s responsibility as if it were mine. The Lord said, “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” (Mt 6:25). He added, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Mt 6:34). He also said to Martha, “You are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, [sitting at Jesus’ feet] which will not be taken away from her” (Lk 10:41-42). Paul says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Php 4:6). And Peter adds, “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Pet 5:7).
