CHRIST the GRACE DISPENSER (Heb 4:16): W.A. Cornaby tells of riding with a Chinese boatman on the river Han: The current was strong so, in spite of much poling, we made little headway. Then, having performed a simple operation, we began to speed along. In a tone of innocence, I asked him: “Does putting up that sail help?” He didn’t reply, but grinned. “I suppose you say it catches the power of something no one has ever seen—the wind. But how can an unseen power make this heavy boat move?” His grin exploded into laughter. I pressed on. “Have you heard we Christians pray to an unseen God?” “I have, sir. Does it answer at all?” “Now, I asked, ‘Does that sail help?’ and you just laughed.” “Everyone knows it does. Look how we’re going!” “Well, everybody who knows the Lord Jesus as Rescuer, and who puts up the sail of his heart in faith knows He does answer. Our prayers catch hold of the unseen power of God, like a fair wind always blowing.”
