JESUS CHRIST the GREATER: “Who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves” (Lk 22:27). Only the embodiment of Wisdom could explain that the secret of true greatness was in taking the place of the lowest and least. Yet He who humbled Himself to the lowest place was indeed greater than Abraham (Jn 8:53) for Abraham in faith rejoiced to see His day and was glad. He was greater than Jacob (Jn 4:12), for He is the true Israel (Isa 49:3), God’s Prince. Greater than John the Baptiser (Mt 11:11)? Yes, for was He not speaking of Himself when He said, “he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he”? And greater than Jonah (Mt 12:41), who, passing through three days and nights in what prefigured Christ’s grave, yet was reluctant to become a missionary to the Gentiles, unlike our Savior. And greater than Solomon (Lk 11:31), for His glory and kingdom will never pass away. He’s the Greatest!
