CHRIST the FATHER of ETERNITY: “And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father…” (Isa 9:6). Certainly one of the most curious titles of the Messiah, the term “Everlasting Father” (Heb, abi ad) is “Father of eternity.” But why should it not be? He provided us with an eternal salvation (Heb 5:9) through an eternal redemption price (Heb 9:12). At present, we are the stewards of “the words of eternal life” (Jn 6:68), and are to be busy gathering “fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together” (Jn 4:36). According to His eternal purpose “accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Eph 3:11), He has “called us to His eternal glory” (1 Pet 5:10). Now possessing eternal life (Jn 10:28), we are sealed and secure through the eternal Spirit (Heb 9:14). Thus we are encouraged to make daily progress to our eternal home (2 Cor 5:1), and live in “the promise of the eternal inheritance” (Heb 9:15). Father of eternity indeed!
