GOD the SON (Isa 9:6): “Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists?…What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, if you know?” (Prov 30:4). As the kinsman Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ is the son of Adam (Lk 3:38). As descendant of the father of the faithful (Rom 4:16), and the Author and Finisher of faith, He is the son of Abraham (Mt 1:1). As the scion of the royal line, He is the son of David (Mt 9:27; 15:22; 20:30; Mk 10:46-47). As the sole heir of the throne established in Jerusalem, He receives His legal right to it by being the son of Joseph (as was supposed) (Jn 1:45). But in order to avoid the deadly curse on Jochoniah, He must be the virgin-conceived son of Mary (Mk 6:3). As well, He is the Son of Man, introduced in Daniel (7:13), an equivalent name to the Christ (see Jn 12:24). Yet for all this, He is the co-existent “beloved” (Mt 17:5) and “begotten” (Jn 1:18) Son of God (Mt 16:16), in fact, God the Son (Heb 1:8).
