JESUS the DOER of GREAT THINGS: The Lord Jesus instructed the former demoniac of Gadara, “Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you” (Lk 8:39). But what did he do? “He went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things JESUS had done for him.” Unlike the religious leaders, he understood that the Jesus who did the great things was the God of whom Samuel declared, “Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you” (1 Sam 12:24). His great things are a means of His personal revelation: “O Lord, for Your servant’s sake, and according to Your own heart, You have done all this greatness, in making known all these great things” (1 Chron 17:19). And they are beyond calculation, adds Job: “To God I would commit my cause—who does great things, and unsearchable, marvelous things without number” (5:8-9). We Gentiles declare: “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad.”
