THIS SAME JESUS: “This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). “He is coming! He is coming!” cried the prophets, wrote the poets, illustrated the sacrifices. And, in the fullness of time, He did. Then the message changed slightly. Now the Christians went forth with a double message: “He has come—and He is coming again!” What was so convincing about this message so that thousands believed in Christ? It was that the Christians were convinced! And what about today? I’m reminded of the story of the girl who said to her mother, “Momma, my Sunday School teacher tells us that the world is only a place where God lets us live so we can prepare for the world He’s preparing for us. Is that true?” “Of course, my dear.” “Well, Momma, I see you preparing for us to go to the cottage, and Aunt Elisa is preparing for Susan’s wedding. But do you know anyone who’s preparing to go there?”
