January 16 Petition Mission

“Elijah the prophet came near and said, ‘Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel…’” (1 Ki 18:36).

I don’t know many folks who can call down rain or fire as the need requires. Yet we are reminded that Elijah was of the same constitution as we are. The great man of prayer, George Müller, wrote: “We should not be anxious because it is impossible to be anxious without dishonoring God. The reason why the children of God are so frequently overpowered by difficulties and trials is because they attempt to carry their burden themselves, instead of casting it on God. The God of Elijah is here today, and He is exactly the same as He was in the prophet’s time—as ready and as willing to help His children. The living God is with us, whose power never fails, whose arm never grows weary, and whose wisdom is infinite. Therefore today, tomorrow, and next month, as long as life is continued, He will be our helper and friend.”
