January 21 Petition Mission

“With my whole heart I have sought You; oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!” (Ps 119:10).

Webster defines “wandering” as “to move about without a fixed course, aim, or goal.” To everyone else around us, we may seem to be focused and disciplined. But the Lord knows that a life aimed at anything but Him entirely misses the mark. Unbelievers are tragically pictured as “wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever” (Jude v 13). I vividly recall listening, as an 18-year-old, to the Apollo 11 Moon Shot. As the capsule reentered earth’s atmosphere, travelling at 25,000 miles per hour, the commentators told us that the window of success was very small. Too high an angle and they would incinerate; too low an angle, and Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins would careen into space with no possibility of return.

May my daily prayer be that I would be locked in on the love-beam, fixed “with my whole heart” on seeking the Lord.
