February 24 Petition Mission

“Then Jacob said, ‘O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac,…I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth which You have shown Your servant…” (Gen 32:9-10).

C.H. Spurgeon writes: “I have a dear brother in Christ, Mr. Curme, who is the mirror of humility. He divides his name into two words, Cur me? which means (in Latin), ‘Why me?’ Often did he say in my hearing, ‘Why me, Lord?’ Truly I can say the same. This exceeding kindness of the Lord tends to promote humility, and at the same time help us in prayer. We may adopt the language of the Phoenician woman when the Master said, ‘It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.’ She answered, ‘Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.’ So we will ask our Lord to give us crumbs of mercy, and they will be enough for us poor dogs.”

God’s crumbs are bigger than man’s feasts. How great His gifts to such unworthy recipients!
