September 20 Petition Mission

“Then God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, ‘Jacob, Jacob!’ And he said, ‘Here I am’” (Gen 46:2).

He knows you well, believer. But on only seven occasions do we have it recorded that the Lord called one of His people twice in a row: “Abraham, Abraham!” (Gen 22:11). “Jacob, Jacob!” (Gen 46:2). “Moses, Moses!” (Ex 3:4). “Samuel! Samuel!” (1 Sam 3:10). “Martha, Martha…” (Lk 10:41). “Simon, Simon!” (Lk 22:31). And “Saul, Saul…” (Acts 9:4). Each of these was in a moment of crisis.

But our God is both a crisis-engaging and then a crisis-evaporating God. Notice Jacob’s situation. As he looked on his life, heart-broken, he sadly said, “All these things are against me” (Gen 42:36). But at no time were things more FOR Jacob than on the day he said that! He had yet to learn: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31).

Yes, the Lord calls His own by name. He is calling to you today. He is ready to step in and help. What better prayer than this:“Here I am.”
