October 16 Petition Mission

“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon” (Isa 55:7). Here is a practical petition for the lost around us. Why do they not turn? Maybe they haven’t been warned!

In Renewing the Soul of America, Charles Crismier tells an incident regarding the Johnstown, PA, flood on May 31, 1889, when the South Fork Dam broke, releasing 14.55 million cubic meters of water. More than 2,200 people died. “Victor Heiser was sixteen when…he watched in horror as his home—with his parents in it—was swept away. Clinging to the barn roof, he had a wild ride down the Conemaugh River.…Later he recalled that ‘the townspeople, like those who lived in the shadow of Vesuvius, [had grown] calloused to the possibility of danger.’”

Jesus would ask of those in His day, “Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?” (Mt 3:7). Ask the Lord who you should warn today.
