“Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples” (1 Chron 16:23-24). Looking for a great resolution for the coming year? You couldn’t do better than this! To sing the Lord’s praises more, to share the Good News more, and to declare the Lord’s wonders more.
Peter Bilhorn, born in Mendota, Illinois, asked his friend, Francis Rowley, to write a hymn they could use. Rowley wrote “I Will Sing the Wondrous Story.” Bilhorn added the tune, but he also lived the hymn’s truth. One night, while he was in Wisconsin, he had already retired for the night. But the Spirit prompted him to dress and go out onto the street, although it was bitterly cold. Seeing light from a window, he knocked and asked if he could come in. It was a group of men gambling. The evangelist sang, “Where is My Wandering Boy Tonight?” Six of the men, deeply convicted, trusted the Lord that night!
