January 1, 2021 — Taste & See

Welcome to our new series of daily devotions! Titled Taste & See, the series will run from Monday to Friday each week. That’s because they will also be featured as weekly radio messages on those days of the week only. The radio lessons are just a few minutes long and are intended to follow the words of Isaiah 28:10, “Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.” The hope, Lord willing, is to follow the leading of the Spirit as we discover our way through the Word of God. We will be looking for a key thought each day, a precious jewel of divine truth in response to this challenge from the Wise Man: “If you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God” (Prov 2:3-5). There will be a variety of objectives as suited to the particular portion of the Word: devotional, apologetic, gospel, exhortation, or comfort. Some will focus on critical details, others on big-picture lessons. But through it all, our hope is to see the Author’s glory shining through. He is the treasure we are looking for, the embodiment of all wisdom and knowledge. On a personal note, the devotionals will begin the day following the writer passing the threescore-and-ten milestone. We would be happy to be interrupted in this project—which may take quite a few years to complete—by the Rapture! But otherwise we appreciate the prayers of the Lord’s people as He gives us not only daily strength but fresh enjoyment from the biblical banqueting table as together we continually “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Ps 34:8). —Jabe Nicholson
