CHRIST the SEEKER (Lk 19:10). F.B. Hole tells of Peter, a steeple-watch in the cathedral in Utrecht. A believer, he spent every available moment reading the Word. One blustery night he was interrupted by a wealthy townsman, Dr. Blankenhagen, an avid astronomer. He wanted to set up a telescope in the tower to observe a rare conjunction of stars. As they talked, the doctor asked, “Do you really believe the Creator of all those stars lowered Himself to choose this little globe for His dwelling place?” Peter explained the heart of the shepherd who would seek one lost sheep, whatever the cost. The doctor was unconvinced. Away he went, only to return a few minutes later in panic. He had lost a small screw essential for adjusting the telescope. After Peter helped him find it, he asked, “If you have not hesitated to lower yourself to the dust for the sake of a little piece of brass, why do you wonder that the Creator should humble Himself to save His lost creatures?”
