The KEEN-EYED CHRIST: “So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood’” (Mk 12:43-44). The Lord Jesus had unerring judgment; He know the true value of everything. “How tawdry are the pomps and the magnificences which we admire,” says J.H. Jowett, “and how splendid are the lowly eternities which we despise.” At a public meeting being held at a certain English town in the interests of Foreign Missions, the chairman foolishly read out a list of donors. In response to the large amounts at the beginning of the list there was decided applause. But when a small amount was mentioned, the crowd was silent. In the stillness, an elderly gentleman exclaimed: “Hush, I think I hear the clapping of the piercéd hands.” The audience did not miss the gentle rebuke.
