CHRIST the ANGEL of the Lord: “In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His Presence saved them; in His love and in His pity He redeemed them” (Isa 63:9). The Second Person of the Trinity is the visible manifestation of the invisible God (see Jn 1:18). As the Angel of the Lord, He prepared the way for His own coming! We recognize Him because He accepts worship, takes the names of Deity, and promises what only God can do. It is a fascinating study! He appears to Hagar twice (Gen 16:7-13; 21:17-18); to Abram thrice (Gen 18; 22:11-18; 24:7, 40) and to Jacob (Gen 28; 31:11, 13; see also Gen 48:15-16; 32:24-32; Hos 12:2-6). Then to Moses (Ex 3:2, 6, 14; 13:21-22; 14:19; 23:20-23; see also Isa 63:7-9), to Balaam (Num 22:22-35) and Joshua (Josh 5:13-15). See also Jud 2:1-4; 5:23; 6:11f; 13:3-23; 2 Sam 24:1f; 1 Chron 21:11-30; 2 Ki 19:31-37; Isa 37:36; 1 Ki 19; 2 Ki 19:35). Did you know how busy He was between Creation and Calvary?
