JESUS the POOR MAN: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich” (2 Cor 8:9). Solomon may not have been thinking about the Messiah when he wrote: “There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great snares around it. Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man” (Eccl 9:14-15). But he could have been! We too were besieged by “a strong man armed” (Lk 11:21-22). He used all manner of snares to entrap us. But then, when all seemed hopeless, a Poor Wise Man appeared. At incalculable cost, He—the richest Person in the universe—became poor, so He might not only deliver us from the strong man’s palace, but take us in triumph to some day call His wonderful palace our Home Sweet Home! Let’s not forget to remember that Poor Wise Man.
